Dr Mog's Favourite Diseases

These are some of Dr Mog's favourite diseases. The concise medical definition is given along with Dr Mog's own private comments. Please feel free to use these wonderful ailments when you're next filling in a self-certification form.

Hunter's Syndrome (mucopolysaccharidosis type II)

A hereditary disorder caused by deficiency of an enzyme that results in the accumulation of protein-carbohydrate complexes and fats in the cells of the body. This leads to mental retardation, enlargement of the liver and spleen, and prominent coarse facial features (gargoylism). The disease is sex-linked, being restricted to males, although females can be carriers.

Comment - I'm sure I've seen a few female sufferers, especially after waking up in a strange bedroom on a Saturday morning following a drunken night out.

Dandy-Walker Syndrome

A form of cerebral palsy in which the cerebellum is usually the part of the brain affected. It leads to unsteadiness of balance and an abnormal gait.

Comment - This disease also seems to damage the part of the brain that controls sexual behavior, tone of voice and dress colour co-ordination. Patients seem to enjoy the music of 'The Village People' and have often requested an anal probe.

Pseudologia Fantastica

The telling of elaborate and fictitious stories as if they were true. Often some facts are woven into the tissue of lies. While not necessarily a symptom of illness, it is sometimes a feature of chronic mental illness and of personality disorders, particularly psychopathy.

Comment - Very common amongst politicians, the disorder becoming more severe when accompanied by election fever.

Prader-Willi Syndrome

A congenital condition in which obesity is associated with mental retardation and small genitalia.

Comment - This is a very nasty disease commonly associated with rich god-fearing American Republicians and is probably caused by gratuitous interbreeding and excessive banjo playing.
